Several mobility and transportation improvement projects are making progress in the Spring Branch Management District, and some new ones are about to launch, said Mahmoud Salehi, a principal of CobbFendley & Associates, an engineering firm.

Conrad Construction was due to start on Long Point reconstruction March 1, installing underground utilities, water mains, sanitary lines, storm sewers, he said, adding that Centerpoint Energy and Reliant will be addressing the relocation of electrical poles and installation of new gas lines.

Meanwhile, the City of Houston is conducting engineering studies to reconstruct Gessner from just south of Long Point to Nuens, as well as partnering with the Memorial City TIRZ to reconstruct Gessner from Long Point to I-10, he said. The engineering study is due to be complete in FY 2016, with construction beginning the following year.

At a Capital Improvement Plan town hall meeting in District A on Feb. 25, several city improvement projects were discussed. A representative of the Spring Branch Central Super Neighborhood expressed keen interest in reconstruction projects along Campbell Road, Long Point, and Hollister. Catherine Barchfield also made some suggestions for additional improvements that should be included as part of the projects. She also requested additional lighting,  “facelift” improvements in Campbell Woods Park, along with additional police patrols in the evening.

Houston City Council Member Brenda Stardig said that all nominated projects inclusive of those suggested by the Super Neighborhood organization would be evaluated and addressed according to CIP criteria.
