Houston Prevention Takes Back 475 lbs of Prescription Drugs

“Prevetion is not just a strategy. It becomes a way of life.” – Frederick Weatherspoon

On participating in this year’s massive RX drug take back program Prevention Staff Frederick Weatherspoon had this to say:

“My experience participating with the drug take back this year was remarkable. I was able to see firsthand how the implementation process works, especially after the planning process. It was wonderful to share the experience of making a difference in the community. But most of all, it was rewarding to see the community respond to the call of the efforts of the coalition.”

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse and medications.

Phoenix House / CoSAP worked with the DEA for about 4 years new sponsoring these events. Our main participation consits in marketing the event in the community. At the same time, we make them aware of the possible dangers and consequences of having old and unused medications available and usually stored in places that most people have uncontrolled access to them.
