SBSNN Meeting – Monday, July 24, 2017 at 6:30 PM

LOCATION: Spring Shadows Civic Association Office,
10355 Centrepark Drive, Suite 220, Houston, TX 77043

SPEAKER: Houston Police Dept.’s DRT Unit – The DRT Unit (Differential Response Team) from our very own Northwest Division of HPD will be our Speaker at this month’s meeting. According to Sr. Officer Engelhardt, the DRT Unit handles nuisance abatement issues – tall weeds, trash, broken down cars, etc. which the majority of us think of as Deed Restrictions; hence my personal acronym definition of “Deed Response Team”.

Per the HPD Website: Special Operations – DRT Unit

The DRT within the division presently consists of one sergeant and four officers with plans for expansion. The purpose of the Differential Response Team is to work with the Central Business District Community to reduce crime and improve the quality of life. Additionally, the DRT proactively works with the community using traditional and non- traditional innovative forms of problem solving to impact crime, calls for service, safety issues and quality of life within the Central Business District.

In addition, the DRT addresses diverse problems such as un-kept lots, residential improprieties, apartment complex ordinance violations, environmental lawlessness and business licensing regulations, as well as responding to crime problems as identified through crime analysis. On a routine basis, the DRT also meets with the community members, encouraging the involvement of the community in the problem solving process. Ultimately, the goal is to have an overall impact benefiting the City of Houston as a whole.

Together with the new information we learned last meeting about the 311 App, we should be able to assist in getting our neighborhoods looking better in no time!
