Gessner at Long Point

Gessner Road was recently reconstructed from Long Point to Neuens. This project (N-000809-0001) provided for the design and construction of the six-lane, divided concrete roadway with storm drainage, curbs, driveways, street lighting, traffic control, and necessary underground utilities. The street deteriorated beyond normal maintenance.

This project began because the community voiced their concerns about flooding, traffic, and poor road conditions. Council Member Stardig pushed for this project as well as the enhanced amenities such as upgraded street lights and trees. Gessner is a major artery in Spring Branch that connects the community to the growing businesses in the area. “Our community deserves the upgrades and improvements to drainage and mobility,” said Council Member Stardig, “Gessner is in the heart of Spring Branch, and I am committed to making sure that we get all of the resources worthy of such a great community.”

The District A community planted many of the trees along Gessner that were removed during construction. Council Member Stardig wanted to show respect for those who planted the trees and watched them grow over the years. Mayor Turner agreed to Council Member Stardig’s plan for bigger trees and upgraded street lights. Rather than impacting the City’s budget, Council Member Stardig reached out to the Spring Branch Management District.

“I cannot thank the Spring Branch Management District (SBMD) enough for their support and commitment to our community,” said Council Member Stardig. “SBMD agreed to maintain the new trees to the consistent, high standards that the Management District is known for.” SBMD also agreed to Council Member Stardig’s request to pay for the upgraded street lights and the installation of the pavers at the Gessner and Long Point intersection.

“The Spring Branch Management District is dedicated to making enhancements for the businesses that we serve,” said David Hawes, Executive Director of the SBMD. “Gessner already has many businesses, and this project will help to attract more to our area.

The Gessner reconstruction project from I10 to Long Point will begin in 2019. It will also include drainage and mobility improvements.
