Liz Miranda serves as Chief of Staff for Council Member Amy Peck. She is a proud resident of District A. Liz earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Houston-Downtown, and a master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from the University of St. Thomas. She started as in intern for Council Member Ed Gonzalez in 2013, and most recently served as Director of Constituent Services for Council Member Brenda Stardig since 2014. Liz has a passion for public service and community outreach. In her spare time, Liz loves spending time with family, friends, and volunteering at church.

Patrick Coleman serves as Deputy Chief of Staff for Council Member Amy Peck and is a resident of District A. He graduated from the University of Houston (GO COOGS!) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Corporate/Organizational Communications and a minor in English. He has served the City of Houston since 2018. He found his passion for public service when he was exposed to a City Council Meeting during an internship. He then signed up for the University of Houston’s Civic Houston Internship Program (CHIP) where he interned for a Texas State Representative and United States Representative. A few months after graduation he started at the City of Houston. He enjoys watching movies, fishing, spending time with family and watching Houston’s professional sports teams.

Sarah serves District A as the Director of Constituent Services. Her passion is people, and she looks forward to serving District A. She enjoys connecting with constituents and helping them solve issues. Sarah has previously served as District Director in both the Texas State House and State Senate.  She enjoys traveling, cooking, reading and spending time with her family.

Josie De Leon currently serves as the Community Outreach Coordinator and Scheduler for Council Member Amy Peck. She previously worked for former Council Member Mike Laster as Administrative Assistant. Prior to that she was the Executive Director of the Denver Harbor Senior Citizens, Inc. She enjoyed working with the seniors in her community. Her goals are to serve and support the community of District A and work on resolving issues and concerns for the constituents. Josie loves family time, crafting and baseball.

Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) is assisting with recovery efforts. MAM is ready to help with rehousing, case management, and mental health counseling.

The Small Business Administration(SBA) has announced that low-interest federal disaster loans are available to residents and businesses affected by the Watson Grinding and Manufacturing Facility explosion that occurred Jan. 24, 2020. SBA acted under its own authority to declare a disaster in response to a request SBA received from Gov. Greg Abbott on Feb. 11, 2020.

Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to businesses of all sizes, most private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters whose property was damaged or destroyed by this disaster. The SBA disaster recovery specialists will be on hand at the following Disaster Loan Outreach Center to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and help each individual complete their application:

Disaster loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.

Interest rates can be as low as 3.75 percent for businesses, 2.75 percent for private nonprofit organizations and 1.563 percent for homeowners and renters with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition.

Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance.

The deadline to apply for property damage is April 13, 2020.

The deadline to apply for economic injury is Nov. 13, 2020.

Delivering food to the neighborhood with the American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast

In collaboration with the City of Houston, the American Red Cross, and Memorial Assistance Ministries, the Brenda and John Duncan YMCA is collecting monetary contributions and gift cards that will be distributed to families and individuals that have sustained damage to or been displaced from their homes or residences.

As Bayou Greenways 2020 nears completion, Houston Parks Board is hosting two major events this spring to celebrate. On April 4, Houston Parks Board will host the Sights & Sounds Festival. Festivalgoers can walk or cycle a two-mile stretch of greenway along White Oak Bayou while enjoying a variety of performances and experiences from Stude Park to the University of Houston Downtown through Near Northside. Then, on May 9, Houston Parks Board and Orange Show Center for Visionary Art will host Houston’s inaugural Art Bike Parade. The parade will kick off along Allen Parkway, where event participants will cycle together to showcase their rolling works of art. Attendees can head over to Sam Houston Park to enjoy music, family activities, food, and more throughout the day. Registration to ride in Art Bike Parade opens today, and spectators are invited to observe and enjoy the parade for free. So thankful to those who stepped up and donated to the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association Charitable Foundation to purchase this much needed rescue equipment! FAST Rescue Solutions boards were created by a firefighter and will be used on ladder, HazMat, and rescue trucks.‬
