The District A Office receives thousands of emails and phone calls every year.  We compiled a list of some of the frequently asked questions that we receive.  If you have any follow up questions, please contact us at [email protected] or 832-393-3010.

1. What do I do when I have a city-related issue?

  • The first thing to do is to contact 3-1-1.  You can either call 3-1-1 (or 713-837-0311), send an email to [email protected], or download the 3-1-1 app from your mobile phone.  This is an important step because it creates a record with the City.
  • No matter how you contact 3-1-1, you will be issued a Service Request Number (SR#).  If you need additional help, please send that SR# to the District A office.

2. How do I request a city-owned ditch to be mowed more often?

  • City ditches are usually only mowed twice a year.  This is not frequent enough to account for adequate flow of water.  During the Fiscal Year 2022 budget, I offered an amendment to allow District A to hire an on-call maintenance crew to help mow and clean up ditches more often and before heavy rain events.  We are starting with a small number of ditches to see how this program works. If you know of a city-owned ditch that needs additional maintenance, please contact the District A office.
  • This contract does not include ditches where the adjacent property owner is responsible (for example, a ditch in front of your home).  It also does not include ditches maintained by other entities like the Harris County Flood Control District.  If you are not sure who is responsible for maintenance, please contact the District A office.

3. What do I do about illegal dumping?

  • Please contact the District A office if you see illegal dumping.  District A hired a Hot Team to remove illegal dumping throughout the community.  We also partner with Harris County Environmental Crimes Unit for an illegal dumping camera to catch people dumping as well.

4. My trash was missed.  What do I do?

  • Contact 3-1-1 and send the SR# to the District A office.
  • Another budget amendment I offered will help address missed trash.  We will hire a crew to assist with missed trash.  The Solid Waste Department is working on the details of this, and we should have an update soon.

5. My house/street flooded.  What do I do?

  • Report it to 3-1-1 so that there is a record of the incident.
  • There are two types of flooding: street flooding and structural flooding.  Streets are designed to hold water during rain events so that it does not turn into structural flooding (when your home or business floods).  Street flooding should dissipate soon after the rain stops.  If it doesn’t, there might be an issue that needs to be addressed.

6. My neighborhood street is beyond repair as it has been patched for potholes many times. How do I request a street overlay project?

  • Contact 3-1-1 and ask for a “street assessment” of the road. Send the SR# to the District A office.

7. How do I make a request for more police presence in my area?

  • In response to concerns about crime and other neighborhood issues, I implemented a new program called the Neighborhood Patrol Program (NPP).  In addition to general overtime funding, the District A office also pays for the NPP for police officers to spend dedicated time patrolling neighborhoods. Please keep in mind that funding is limited at this time, so officers will rotate neighborhoods as needed.  To make a request for NPP, please click here.
  • You can also fill out an alert slip for HPD to patrol for a prowler, speeding vehicle, excessive burglaries and thefts, being on vacation, or for reasons.  To make this request, please click here.

Upcoming Events

Tiger Trail Partner Meeting
Join the Tiger Trail community partners for a meeting on Wednesday, October 6th from 9-10am. The goals of this gathering are to bring our current and prospective partners together to share:

  • Information about Tiger Trail and the programming we provide
  • Vision for where we hope to go from here
  • How you can be a part of that vision – through on-campus or community engagement opportunities

Whether you have supported Tiger Trail in the past, may be interested in doing so, or may be a current or prospective parent / community member – I also hope this meeting will give us an opportunity to network and collaborate with each other to ensure success for Every Child at Tiger Trail.

Both in-person and virtual options with a light breakfast and tour provided for those attending on campus. Please RSVP here if you are able to attend. A Zoom link will follow for anyone who wishes to attend virtually.

Hike and Bike Trail Segment Virtual Meeting

Join Spring Branch Management District and Houston Parks Board for a virtual community meeting October 7th at 7:00 PM regarding updates on design plans for a new hike-and-bike trail segment.

The proposed 1.8-mile link, “Spring Branch Trail Phase Two,” will run from Gessner Road west within the CenterPoint easement.

Receiving community input on Phase Two, including the trail location, design, and amenities, is a crucial part of this process, so we hope you can join us and share this information with others in your community.

To register for the meeting, click here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the meeting and a call-in phone number.

People who attend the entire meeting will be entered to win a $50 gift card to a local business.

The Spring Branch Phase Two trail is among proposed phases of an 11-mile hike-and-bike through the heart of Spring Branch from Addicks Reservoir to White Oak Bayou Greenway, which connects to downtown and beyond.

Phase One between Wirt Road and Blalock Road within the CenterPoint easement is complete. To read more about this and the Spring Branch 2015-2030 Comprehensive Plan, which calls for these critical connections, click here.
