Illegal Dumping Program Update

The District A Hot Team has been out picking up illegal dumping throughout our district. Before this team was assembled, it often took months for the City to pick up illegal dumping. Thanks to our team, most of the dumping is now picked up the same day we receive the report.

We continue to work with the Harris County Constable’s Environmental Crimes Unit to install illegal dumping cameras, where feasible, to catch those who are committing this crime.

If you see illegal dumping along a street, ditch, or park, please contact my office at [email protected] or 832-393-3010. Please note that our team cannot enter private property.

Report Water Smell

Houston Public Works (HPW) is aware that some customers are noticing a water smell. Samples collected by Houston Water indicate disinfectant residuals are within range. Per HPW, Houston’s drinking water still meets or exceeds all Federal & State standards & is safe. If your water smells, please report to 311. The information will help Houston Water map out locations so it can address the concern.

Discolored and/or smelly water can usually be corrected by flushing the water from the pipes of your home or business. To flush the water:

  • Run cold-water from faucets for up to 10 minutes
  • To flush automatic ice makers, make three batches of ice and discard

Affordable Connectivity Program – Home Internet Service Discount

There is good news this week for the many Texans who still struggle because they lack a reliable internet connection: fast broadband connections for qualified residents at the best price possible — $0.

This program is made possible with a partnership between the Access from AT&T program and federal benefits from the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).

A reliable internet connection is a foundation for success – providing learning opportunities and the chance to apply for jobs, access benefits, research childcare programs, and attend virtual trainings.

Are you eligible for this program? If you can access the internet now, you can find out via the ACP website and then reach out to AT&T at (855) 220-5211.  They can verify your ACP approval and set you up on a plan with the ACP benefit. You can also reach out to the ACP at this number (877) 384-2575.
