Watson Grinding and Manufacturing
Explosion Anniversary

January 24th marks the third anniversary of the Watson Grinding and Manufacturing explosion in District A that killed three people. Since the explosion, City ordinances were changed relating to the storage of hazardous materials to require reporting of materials stored outside and to close loopholes. The ordinance changes also expanded the areas where hazardous materials cannot be stored.

We will never forget this explosion and all those impacted by it, but we are moving on to make positive changes for the City to try to prevent this from happening again.

Thank you again to all the people, groups, businesses, and elected officials who helped during this difficult time!

Community Events from December

Highlighting some of the many community events from last month!
HPD’s North Division did an amazing job giving out bikes, gift cards, and thousands of toys to our community! I’m so thankful to our officers for not only keeping us safe but also for supporting the community with events like this!
Volunteering for HFD’s Operation Stocking Stuffer with staff from the offices of Council Members Alcorn, Plummer, Huffman, and Kamin.
Vogel Creek Greenway Holiday Walk! With the Eisenhower Choir, who sang lovely songs along the walk. Thanks to the Houston Parks Board and all the constituents who put on this great event!
Honored to participate in the Crime stoppers Crime Victims Holiday Memorial Remembrance Tree Ceremony. Such a sad event, but I’m thankful to Crime Stoppers for continuing to support the families.
Student matinee of the Nutcracker by the Houston Ballet! With Council Member Mary Nan Huffman and Lauren Anderson with the Houston Ballet.
