News From District A: Bingle Road Diet Stopped, Clean Up at Gessner & Hammerly, and More

First Term Report

In case you missed it, our first term report was sent out last year. It contains some of the many items we worked on in my first 4 years in office. Please take a moment to review the work the District A Team and I have done on your behalf here.

Inauguration and Selection of Vice Mayor Pro Tem

Thank you again to the residents of District A for electing me to represent you for another four years! In addition to the inauguration in January, I was also honored to be selected by my colleagues as Vice Mayor Pro Tem! I am excited to work with Mayor Whitmire and Mayor Pro Tem Castex-Tatum to implement important measures related to public safety, infrastructure, and quality of life.

Clean Up at Gessner and Hammerly

HPD NW Division, the Spring Branch Management District, the District A Team, and I met with representatives from the Kroger at Gessner and Hammerly to discus the crime issues and homeless individuals who have been harassing people (and providing services to those who need it).

We are happy to report that Kroger is now working with us! They signed a trespass affidavit, and both HPD and SEAL Security are now able to provide services on the property!

Landfill Expansion Stopped in Carverdale

USA Waste of Texas Landfills, Inc. announced that they withdrew their application to expand the Hawthorn Park landfill. Their previous plan to expand the existing would have caused it to be positioned closer to the Carverdale neighborhood.

I am pleased that they did the right thing for the Carverdale community and pulled the application to expand the landfill. I refuse to allow Carverdale to become a dumping ground. Our community deserves better. I remain committed to making sure Carverdale and all neighborhoods in District A are given every opportunity to thrive.

Thank you to Mayor Whitmire for standing with me to oppose this expansion. I know his involvement helped to put an end to this proposal. Thank you also to Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee, Council Member Sallie Alcorn, Council Member Letitia Plummer, Commissioner Tom Ramsey, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Representative Penny Morales Shaw, and many other elected officials for supporting our community by writing letters of opposition and attending the hearings.

This is a huge win for everyone in Carverdale who made their voices heard and stood together to support our community.”

Upcoming and Ongoing Projects in District A

Park Ten and Turkey Creek Wastewater Treatment Plants Ongoing until Spring 2025

The project provides for the installation of a gravity sanitary sewer and sanitary force main. The scope also includes the abandonment of the Park Ten WWTP and improvements to the North Eldridge Lift Station and Park Row Regional Lift Station.

Construction was paused because of a contractor issue that has since been resolved. Please expect traffic delays as the project resumes in the next couple of weeks.

I-10 Inner Katy Corridor Managed Lanes (Voss to I-45)

The proposed project would include approximately 6.3 miles of new managed lanes, reconstructing the existing general-purpose lanes, and expanding the current drainage system. I-10 between the project limits consists of five 12-foot-wide general-purpose lanes in each direction, 8 to 10 foot-wide shoulders, a discontinuous frontage road system varying between 2 to 3 12-foot-wide lanes, and 6-foot-wide sidewalks. The existing right-of-way is approximately 415-feet-wide.

Congratulations to HPD Cadet Class #261! 76 cadets became officers today. It was the 3rd largest class since 2000!

I joined HPD NW Division, Representative Lacey Hull, and Council Member Julian Ramirez for a Coffee with the Cops event!
