Freedom Over Texas
This year’s Freedom Over Texas is an event filled with six-hours of festivities (4pm – 10pm), tradition, and live concert stages, along Allen Parkway. Freedom Over Texas will feature local, regional, and national entertainment and will be capped off with a musically choreographed, “Texas-sized” fireworks finale. The event will donate a percentage of food and beverage sales to the Houston Food Bank. We look forward to enjoying a fun, engaging, and safe event for our nation’s birthday.

Event parking is available for a fee at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts parkinggarage located at 800 Bagby Street, 77002 — enter parking garage on Rusk between Houston Avenue and Bagby Street. More event parking also available in the Theater District Parking Garages with access on Rusk between Bagby and Smith Streets.

Houston Airports Holiday Update
From the Houston Airport System:

This July Fourth weekend, Houston Airports is anticipating more than 1.9 million people to fly through both of Houston’s airports between June 27th and July 8th, representing an 8% increase over last year. Please allow plenty of time to park and make it through security so that you don’t miss your flight.

WHAT THE DATA SHOWS, SO FAR:

  • In May 2024, Houston Airports hit record monthly enplanement – 2,816,854 million people boarded nonstop or connecting flights at either Bush or Hobby Airport, a record last set in July 2018 with 2,794,798 passengers.
  • All Top 5 TSA Daily Throughput days have happened in 2024: March 8; June 6; May 24; May 27 and March 10.
  • Although Houston Airports welcomed a record 5,627,908 total passengers (enplaned & deplaned) in July 2023, the airport system is anticipating that July 2024 will make a running for a new total passenger record.

BOTTOM LINE: Record passengers, more than 60 additional summer flights and construction at two of the five terminals are all contributing factors to traffic on the roads at Bush Airport. This continued increase in demand is a positive sign for Houston’s economy and challenges Houston Airports to mitigate traffic in new ways.

THIS JULY 4th HOLIDAY, HOUSTON AIRPORTS IS ROLLING OUT:

  • 21 newly hired Landside Agents to enforce ‘Active Loading’ on all Arrivals/Departures curbs.
  • Extended hours for more law enforcement to direct traffic and control traffic lights.
  • 46 ecopark shuttle buses to operate during peak travel hours.
  • An extended dedicated Exit Lane for the C/D/E Garage.

STRATEGIES THAT WORKED DURING MEMORIAL DAY CONTINUE IN JULY:

  1. Construction that would impact traffic is paused for the holiday.
  2. Airlines are bringing in additional staff for customer service.
  3. TSA will be fully staffed and have additional officers and K9’s.
  4. In May, Houston Airports opened more than 600 new spaces in the IAH C/D/E Parking Garage.
  5. IAH social media will share timely details through the weekend.
