Winter Freeze Update

February 19, 2025
Incoming Freeze
A new cold front is here that will bring extremely cold temperatures throughout the rest of the week. Please be prepared by taking care of the “Four P’s:”
  • People: Keep warm by layering clothing and utilizing extra blankets. Check on vulnerable neighbors and family members.
  • Pets: Bring pets inside or ensure they have adequate shelter, food, and water.
  • Pipes: Protect exposed pipes from freezing by covering them with insulation or towels.
  • Plants: Bring plants indoors or cover them to prevent damage from freezing temperatures.
Warming Centers
As colder temperatures arrive, the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is fully prepared to respond to the cold front and ensure the safety and well-being of residents. OEM is working in close collaboration with all city departments and partner agencies to provide support and resources for the community during the expected cold weather.

Starting Wednesday February 19, at 6:00 PM., the City will open 12 warming centers across Houston to provide shelter and relief to those in need. The warming centers will remain open overnight until Friday, February 21, at 8:00 AM. Individuals who arrive with items will be allowed to keep their items with them while they are at the warming centers. FREE Z Trips will be offered to go to these centers. Individuals needing assistance are encouraged to call 3-1-1.

Please check the OEM Website here for updates. There are many daytime warming centers open in and around District A. For an overnight center, please use the FREE z-trip ride if you are unable to safely make it to a center.
