Fire Station 38 Update

Fire Station 38 (on Silber) Update: This fire station is in the process of going through some much needed repairs. The station is closed while the repairs are being done, but it will open back up as soon as the work is complete. We should have an updated timeline on that soon. In the meantime, resources were allocated to the surrounding stations to minimize disruption in services. This station is NOT being closed permanently.

Ditch Maintenance Program

During the Fiscal Year 2022 budget process, I authored an amendment with Council Member Abbie Kamin to do on-call maintenance of city-owned ditches.  City ditches are mowed roughly twice a year and maintained even less frequently.  This is not acceptable, and some flooding might not occur if the ditches were clear and able to hold the maximum amount of water.

This budget amendment passed unanimously, and we recently started this program.  Several ditches were selected for immediate maintenance.  After complete, we will continue to monitor these and other ditches before heavy rain events to make sure they will work at full capacity.

If you know of a ditch that needs maintenance, please contact the District A office at [email protected] or 832-393-3010.  Please note that this program does not include ditches where the adjacent property owner is responsible for mowing (for example the ditches that may be in front of your house).  If you are not sure who is responsible for a ditch’s maintenance, please contact our office.

Below are some examples of the ditches that have been maintained under this new program.

Junk Waste (Heavy Trash) is Behind Schedule

The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is currently behind on picking up junk waste (heavy trash).  Please allow for extra time for collections.  If it is not collected in the next couple of days, please contact 311 to file a report and then send the report number to the District A office at [email protected] or 832-393-3010.
