| During the Fiscal Year 2022 budget process, I authored an amendment with Council Member Abbie Kamin to do on-call maintenance of city-owned ditches. City ditches are mowed roughly twice a year and maintained even less frequently. This is not acceptable, and some flooding might not occur if the ditches were clear and able to hold the maximum amount of water.
This budget amendment passed unanimously, and we recently started this program. Several ditches were selected for immediate maintenance. After complete, we will continue to monitor these and other ditches before heavy rain events to make sure they will work at full capacity.

Please note that this program does not include ditches where the adjacent property owner is responsible for mowing (for example the ditches that may be in front of your house). If you are not sure who is responsible for a ditch’s maintenance, please contact our office.
