District A Update: Severe Thunderstorms

May 17, 2024
Yesterday, May 16, 2024, Houston experienced severe thunderstorms that swept through the city and resulted in widespread blackouts, debris scattered on roads, and significant damage to properties. Unfortunately District A sustained significant damages.

According to CenterPoint, over 700,000 residents are currently without power in the area. This outage has also affected around 2,500 traffic signals. Restoration efforts are ongoing, with CenterPoint and Houston Public Works working diligently to bring back power to the affected areas and restore functionality to the traffic signals.

No one expected the storm to have this kind of impact. We are working diligently to activate our disaster recovery plan. More details will come soon!

What can I do?

Your safety is the most important thing. Stay indoors if you can. Please be aware that the electricity may take days to get back on. If you are without power, please contact CenterPoint and make them aware. Their contact information will be found below. Please contact 3-1-1 for any debris pick up or any city-related issues regarding the storm, like trees blocking roads. The City is focusing on clearing major roads first. Then they will proceed to clearing neighborhood streets.
