Preparing to Launch and/or Grow their Businesses

$30,000 in Cash and In-Kind Prizes Awarded in May – Prepare Now to Apply

Houston Community College and Newspring are offering five free 2-hour group training sessions and 1-on-1 mentoring February through April to proposed, startup and existing entrepreneurs preparing to start or grow their businesses. It’s an opportunity to fully develop your launch and/or growth strategy, implement it in 2018 and seek funding if you need it. The 2018 HCC Newspring Business Plan Competition also awards $30,000 in cash prizes on May 30 to the top five accepted applicants who have moved through the free competition mentoring and training from late February through April. A one-day financial workshop should be taken prior to the start of the competition training. Proposed and startup entrepreneurs should also take a quick online class that assists in preparing business assumptions to be further developed in the competition.

    *Startup=not yet achieved 6 straight mos net profit.
  • Existing Entrepreneurs – 2 Steps: Workshop and Apply
  • 10,000 Small Business Alumni – 1 Step: Apply

• Class for Some – Creating a Successful Business Plan-Online Class-24 hrs over 6 wks-
  Option 1: December Class You can sign up for the class that started 12/13 until 12/26. Complete twelve two-hour lessons and finish the class by January 19.
  Option 2: January Class – Starts January 17, finish by February 25. More on Class

  • February 16 – Accepted Contestants Notified
  • February thru April – Competition Training Sessions & 1-on-1 Mentoring – Five 2-Hour Tues Evening Sessions 2/27, 3/6, 3/20, 4/3, 4/17
  • May 7-Plans Due
  • May 24-Finalists Present to Judges
  • May 30-Celebrate All Plans Completed and Award $30,000 in Cash & In-Kind Prizes
