Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) has been selected as a finalist in Aetna’s 2019 Voices of Health Campaign, celebrating grassroots non-profit organizations across the country that are working to address social determinants of health in their communities. A competition of online voting will be available to the public between September 9 – October 13 at www.aetnavoicesofhealth.com/2019/houston.

All organizations participating in this year’s Voices of Health competition, including MAM were selected in April, during a public nomination period.

Aetna will be awarding $20,000 to the organization that receives the most online votes in its market. Participating markets include: Atlanta; Central Pennsylvania; Charlotte, NC; Cincinnati, OH; Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; Detroit; Fresno, CA; Houston, TX; Inland Empire, CA; Jacksonville, FL; King County, WA; Los Angeles; Louisville, KY; New York City; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh, Santa Clara, CA; South Florida; and Tacoma, WA.

“MAM’s Network of Programs provide the multifaceted approach necessary to successfully prepare our diverse community for a healthier and productive tomorrow. When families struggle to make ends meet, they are forced to decide between food, rent, healthcare or bills –putting their family’s health at risk. MAM offers the services families need to deal with and move past a crisis without jeopardizing their health needs in the process”, said Sonja Gee, President & CEO. “Having Aetna recognize our work lets us know we are making a difference.”

Families in crisis find support and solutions at MAM and once stabilized, they also find many opportunities for self-improvement. MAM designs and delivers community-responsive programs to help families address and move past a crisis to build more economically sustainable lives.

Campaigning for Votes

The Aetna “Voices of Health” website will feature a one-minute video from each organization describing how the prize money would help it further its mission. Organizations will be able to advocate for votes in different ways, including sharing their videos through social media and other communication channels.
