City of Houston Bond Election

Tuesday, November 8, 2022 is Election Day! On the ballot, there are 7 City of Houston bond proposals:

Proposition A: Public Safety ($277,000,000)
Proposition B: Parks ($60,000,000)
Proposition C: Animal Care – BARC ($47,000,000)
Proposition D: Public Health ($33,000,000)
Proposition E: General Permanent Improvements ($29,000,000)
Proposition F: Library ($26,000,000)
Proposition G: Solid Waste ($6,000,000)

The parks bond (Proposition B) contains $10M to rehabilitate Agnes Moffitt Park in District A. If you have additional questions about the bond, you are welcome to contact my office, but please note that we are not allowed to offer recommendations about how to vote from the city office (it is against the law).

Veterans Day Celebration

Holiday Solid Waste Schedule

Veterans Day:
In observance of Veterans Day on Friday, November 11, 2022, there will be no collection services.All facilities, including Neighborhood Depositories, Westpark Recycling Center, Environmental Service Center, Reuse Warehouse, and administrative offices will be closed.Please note, collection schedules will be delayed through the end of the week. All regularly scheduled Friday services will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. All neighborhood depositories, Westpark Recycling Center, Environmental Service Center, and Reuse Warehouse will resume normal operating hours on Saturday, November 12, 2022.

Thanksgiving:
On Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving, there will be no collection services. More details will be provided soon here: http://www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/holiday.html

Community Events from October

Highlighting some of the many community events from last month!
Annual District A Public Safety Town Hall with HPD Chief Finner and HFD Chief Peña
Tree and Pet Food Giveaway with Council Member Sallie Alcorn and Commissioner Jack Cagle. Special thanks to the Human Society and Trees for Houston for the pet food and trees!
Council Members Mary Nan Huffman, Tiffany Thomas, and I spent time in October promoting west Houston! We spoke at the West Houston Association City Form and then at the West Houston Leadership Institute Government & Infrastructure Session.
Congratulations to the 67 new police officers who graduated from Cadet Class 255!
We honored all firefighters who died in the line of duty from the very first death in 1899. I placed a rose to honor Clifford Johnson who died in a fire in 1902. So thankful for all firefighters who serve and have served our city.
We had a great time hosting movie nights with Commissioner Cagle to support our community!
Golden Fork Awards Gala benefiting the Texas Restaurant Foundation, the ProStart culinary curriculum, and local scholarships fund. With Rachel Maxcy (CM Huffman’s office), and Sarah Singleton (our Director of Constituent Services).
I spoke at the She Said 7th Annual Conference with Council Member Letitia Plummer and Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth about how the city/county supports women-owned businesses. Photo with She Said founder LaToshia Norwood and CM Plummer.
Council Member Sallie Alcorn and I had a great time speaking with the Spring Shadows Civic Association!
Commissioner Jack Cagle and I hosted two Coffee with the Council Member and Commissioner events to discuss ways our offices can support our community.
I joined Council Member Kamin, Council Member Evans-Shabazz, Vice Mayor Pro-Tem Castex-Tatum, and Representative Hull for a special proclamation for Aid for Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) for their work helping survivors of domestic abuse.

Supporting our Carverdale community with a breast cancer awareness walk.

Supporting the final John Knox Presbyterian Church Arts & Crafts Charity Bazaar! Can’t wait to see how they reinvent this event next year!
