Upcoming Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee
The next Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM. The topic is:

  • Presentation about ETHAN. EMS responders in the field, through ETHAN, can connect with a physician via video link and, upon consultation with the patient, present alternate care and transportation options.

HPD Police Transparency Hub
The Office of Policing Reform and Accountability (OPRA) in collaboration with HPD will be publishing updates on the Police Transparency Hub located here.
Solid Waste Department Update on Storm Debris
The Solid Waste Department announced on on the week of September 20th that they  completed the second pass collection of storm debris. Over 1.7 million cubic yards of debris were removed during the initial recovery phase. The second pass, which began on September 2nd, focused on collecting any remaining storm debris left from the first pass.

SWMD will transition back to its routine heavy trash collection schedule. Storm debris is also accepted at your neighborhood drop-off centers, which will return to regular operating hours, open Tuesday – Sunday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

If there are any issues with your storm debris collection at your house, please contact my office.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Houston Public Library Resumes Print Charges
Effective November 1, 2024, the Houston Public Library will resume charging customers to print documents.

Over the past year, the library’s budget has absorbed the cost of offering free printing services. However, it is no longer sustainable to continue absorbing these expenses.

Charges for Printing:

  • Black and White: $0.15 per page
  • Color: $0.50 per page

Payment Information:

  • Only cashless payment options will be accepted.
  • All major credit and debit cards will be accepted.
  • There will be a minimum $1 charge and $5 credit card hold per transaction.

Houston Public Library recognizes the vital role our system plays in providing free and accessible resources to all residents. We remain dedicated to ensuring that the library serves as a vital resource for everyone in our community. To support this goal, we are actively working on solutions to improve access to printing services. This includes exploring options to address the challenges posed by minimum credit card hold requirements and identifying accommodations for unbanked and underbanked households.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and ongoing support as we make this necessary adjustment to our services.
Fire Station Traffic Signal on Bingle Road
Work Authorization has been issued to construct a Fire Station Traffic Signal at 4420 Bingle Road Houston, Texas 77092.
Construction has been scheduled to commence on October 14, 2024, and is anticipated to end by February 11, 2025. The project is expected to take 120 days to be completed.
Park Ten Wastewater Update
From the HPW Engage Houston Team:

“We would like to share the latest progress of the Park Ten wastewater Project:
Park Row:

  • Testing is ongoing from Memorial Brook to Barker Cypress, once approved traffic control will be removed and the roadway will be open.
  • The City of Houston has approved the 24-Hour work schedule for the tunneling operations from East of Highway 6-to North Eldridge. This schedule will begin October 1, 2024 through October 21, 2024 including Saturdays and Sundays. The Contractor work schedule is required to adhere to the City of Houston Code of Ordinances, Section 30-5 Maximum Permissible Sound Levels. This work plan will allow the Contractor to align with the planned schedule.

North Eldridge (South of I-10):
The contractor is currently maintaining the traffic control plan. The signage is being reviewed to ensure clear traffic flow, and adjustments will be made as necessary.Lift Station:

We’re making strides with ongoing electrical work, and all piping and pumps have been installed. Testing is set to take place in December.

Sadie is an HPD Mounted Patrol Horse that we are happy to sponsor.
Join us in welcoming Sadie as she patrols the streets, ensuring the safety and security of our neighborhoods.
At the City’s 9/11 Ceremony, we remembered and honored those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. Forever grateful for our first responders.
I attended the Inwood Forest Community Improvement Association meeting to discuss the Inwood Forest Stormwater Detention Basin project. Thanks to Harris County Flood Control District for providing an update about this project that will provide much needed flood mitigation for the Inwood area!
Thank you, Mayor John Whitmire for visiting the Houston Police Department Northwest Division today to discuss a path forward for a much needed new station for our very hard working officers and our community!
Thankful to Crime Stoppers of Houston for hosting the National Night of Remembrance event dedicated to honoring the lives of those who have tragically lost their lives to homicide and acknowledging the profound impact this has on their families and communities.
It was a pleasure attending Houston Apartment Association’s NEXT Committee breakfast as a panelist. I, alongside Councilmember Castillo, provided young professionals insight on community involvement and the legislative process.
I had the opportunity to tour the Interfaith Ministries facilities as well as deliver food to seniors in District A. Thank you to Interfaith Ministries for all the work they do to provide food for seniors and pets.
