Storm Debris Storage at the Silos

Update about the storm debris storage at the silos at Westview and Lumpkin from the City’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD):

The site will be use for roughly 90 days as the SWMD continues storm debris collection operations.
Tree waste will be recycled. It will be shredded/chipped and then transferred for various recycled products including mulch and compost.
Dust mitigation: Water trucks are being used to continuously spray water on ingress and egress paths (dirt roads), within the site, and onto the vegetative debris piles as need to reduce the accumulation of dust.

Disaster Recovery Town Halls

Our office recently held two Disaster Recovery Town Halls in District A for those who were impacted by the recent storms.

Representatives in attendance included: FEMA, Office of Emergency Management, Small Business Administration (Francisco Sánchez, Associate Administrator for SBA), CenterPoint, and the City’s Solid Waste Department who provided helpful information about resources for recovery. Separating Storm Debris

FEMA Assistance

Texans who need help applying for FEMA assistance can meet with Disaster Survivor Assistance crews at the Spring Branch Family Development Center in Houston beginningMay 21. These crews can assist anyone affected by the recent severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding to kickstart their recovery.

No appointment is needed.

Crews will be available 7:00 AM-7:00 PM Monday through Sunday at:

Houston, TX 77080

Residents impacted by the storms do not have to meet with FEMA in person to apply for assistance. The fastest way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov. Survivors can also apply by phone at 800-621-3362.

Calls are accepted every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central Time. Help is available in most languages – if you use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA the number for that service.

Residents should be prepared to provide the following information when applying with FEMA:
§  Social Security number
§  Address of the damaged property
§  Description of the damage
§  Information about insurance coverage
§  A current contact telephone number
§  An address where you can receive mail
§  Bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of funds

Park Ten Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Abandonment and Flow Diversion to Turkey Creek WWTP

Houston Public Works recently hosted a virtual meeting about the Park Ten Wastewater Treatment Plant Abandonment and Flow Diversion to Turkey Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Highlighting some of the many community events from the previous month!

The day after the storm, we were calling individuals on the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) list to check on them. Thanks for volunteering Council Members Sallie Alcorn, Twila Carter, Willie Davis, Julian Ramirez, Joaquin Martinez, Mary Nan Huffman, Senator Molly Cook, and the District A Team!

Thank you to HEB for donating hundreds of bags of ice and pallets of water, and thank you to all of the volunteers who helped us distribute to hundreds of people: Council Member Julian Ramirez, volunteers from Senator Ted Cruz and Senator Molly Cook’s offices, CrowdSource Rescue, MAM, Ron Delaney, Elijah Williams, Jordan Fein, and District A Chief of Staff Liz Miranda!
