When David Shriver, Division Manager for Ford Audio Video Systems, and his team applied for the Spring Branch Management District’s Business Improvement Grant (BIG), they were looking for a way to refresh their property and make a lasting impact on the community. The company was in need of serious landscaping and parking lot improvements, and the BIG program offered them the opportunity to tackle these issues.

Ford Audio Video Systems has long been known for its expertise in designing and installing integrated audio and visual systems for businesses and government entities. Founded in 1973 in Oklahoma City, the company has expanded its reach to multiple cities, including their Spring Branch location, where they’ve been serving clients for the past 12 years.

The decision to revitalize their Spring Branch facility came after Chris Ford, Vice President of Sales, discovered the Spring Branch Business Improvement Grant (BIG) through an online search. Recognizing the opportunity to improve the company’s curb appeal and functionality, Chris brought the grant to the attention of the team, and it was Amber Tidwell, their Sales Coordinator, who led the charge in applying for the grant and overseeing the entire process.

“We hadn’t done any exterior beautification projects since we bought the building 12 years ago,” said David Shriver, the Houston Division Manager. “The landscaping was in poor condition, with dead shrubbery and stained stones. Our parking lot was unreadable, and accessibility issues were a concern. We knew we had to make a change, and the BIG program came at the perfect time.”

Ford Audio Video Systems used the grant to completely revamp the exterior of their building, including new landscaping, power-washed sidewalks, and a freshly painted parking lot. These changes not only improved the curb appeal of the property but also addressed accessibility issues, making the business more inviting for visitors and employees alike.

“I was surprised by how much positive feedback we received,” David shared. “Employees and customers alike commented on how much better it looked. It made a huge difference, and we’re much prouder of our building now.”

The application process, according to David, was seamless. “The process was super easy. Amber worked with Lance from the district, who was fantastic. He was responsive, clear, and made everything so smooth. The reimbursement process went just as well—we were able to document everything quickly and got reimbursed without any issues.”

When asked what he would say to other property owners considering the BIG program, David’s advice was simple: “I would strongly encourage anyone in Spring Branch with commercial property to apply. It helps raise the look and feel of the area, and we’re much more proud of our building now. It’s a fantastic way to fund improvements, and we plan to apply again for future projects.”

Ford Audio Video Systems is already looking ahead to their next beautification project: repainting the building to eliminate rust stains and further improve its appearance.

David concluded, “This is a wonderful program. It’s great to see Spring Branch investing in making the area look better. It’s good for business, good for the community, and we’re proud to have been a part of it.”
