An immunized community is a healthy community. That’s why the Spring Branch Management District works so hard to make sure every child in the neighborhood has access to immunizations.

The Back to School Health Fair is an annual event that began over a decade ago in cooperation with the Memorial Rotary Club and Spring Branch ISD. The vision is simple: Immunize our children so each can attend their first day of school with the only real fear being whether or not they forgot their lunch or the combination to their gym locker. Dangerous diseases should not be on their list of worries, nor their parents’.

What started as a small effort has grown exponentially, and the Spring Branch Management District is proud to play a part through financial support and neighborhood outreach. The event attracts around 5,000 people annually, including both adults and children. A true community effort, over 300 volunteers step up to ensure the event is a success, and to lend a helping hand to fellow neighbors.

While the focus is on school-age children, it’s truly a family event. Adults receive complimentary health screenings at the fair, then go home with donated school supplies and kids with stronger teeth (the children can also be treated with dental sealants and fluoride applications).

No one can argue with a strengthened immune system, protected teeth and school supplies, but there are a few bonus activities just for fun. Face painting, soccer clinics and Zumba classes help take the sting out of those shots and put a smile on everyone’s face—parents, kids and volunteers alike.
