“Cowboy Core” might be trending in the fashion world thanks to Beyoncé and Harry Styles, but every Houstonian knows dressing like a cowgirl or cowboy is just part of life here during the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
The rodeo kicked off Tuesday, Feb. 28, and continues through Sunday, March 17 at NRG Park.
If you plan to attend and you’re looking for the perfect outfit and/or accessories, look no further than the Spring Branch Management District, where you’ll find everything you need to start or complete your rodeo looks.
We found a gorgeous Rock ‘Em brand cowboy hat in navy and trendy fringe apparel at Reyes Western Wear, 9769 Long Point Rd., where a staff member was helpful and attentive. They will even shape and clean your hat for you!
You’ll find boots galore and more at Gomez Western Wear, 1616 Gessner Rd. And, with 17 locations in Texas, if they don’t have them in your size at the Spring Branch store, they’re sure to have them at one of the others.
Cuevas Western Wear, 9433-D Kempwood Dr., prides itself on offering only the “real” cowboy brands. And you can start small with rodeo fans, as the store has lots of options for little cowpokes.
Looking for a Stetson 30x El Patron butterscotch cowboy hat? La Raza Western Wear #2, 2054 E. Wirt Rd., has it, as well as a large selection of other hats and western wear for the whole family. They also do hat branding!
You might remember Que Bonito Mexican and Fashion, 2030 Gessner Rd., from its booth at the annual Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market at NRG Center. While they don’t have a rodeo booth this year, they are open in the Spring Branch District and also offer online shopping with free shipping on purchases of $79.99 or more.
Those painted and embroidered cowboy hats from Mexico that are all the rage can be found at Que Bonito for a bargain price around $40. (They sometimes run $80+ at the rodeo and elsewhere.)
Que Bonito also has a wide assortment of earrings and jewelry to coordinate with your hat.
Looking to buy used, whether it’s to be economical or environmental or maybe both? MAM Resale, 1625 Blalock Rd., has everything you need from hats to boots to accessories and clothes.
Rodeo Boots and Shoe Repair, 8700 Long Point Rd., isn’t just a boot repair shop as the name implies, though they can get your current cowboy boots into top rodeo condition. They also have a rodeo boutique with clothes and accessories and, during rodeo season, the store is open on Sundays.
And if your feet get tired from wearing those boots, Rodeo Boots and Shoe Repair can clean your sneakers for you, too.
