The Spring Branch Management District is pleased to welcome Commander Zachary Becker as the new leader of the Houston Police Department’s Northwest Division, which serves the Spring Branch area and surrounding communities.
Commander Becker, who recently transferred from HPD’s Midwest Division, brings over two decades of law enforcement experience to his new role. A native of the Boston area, Becker joined the Houston Police Department in February 2000 and has since served in various crucial positions throughout the department.
“This is a great area, and the community is very supportive of HPD,” says Commander Becker. “We have a lot of really good partnerships here, and the officers are very committed.”
Throughout his career, Becker has demonstrated his versatility and leadership capabilities across multiple divisions. He began his career patrolling the Sharpstown and Galleria areas before advancing through the ranks. His experience includes serving as a sergeant in the Northwest station, Fondren, and the Juvenile Division. He also spent significant time in the Homicide Division, both as a sergeant and later as a lieutenant, where he served for approximately seven years.
In his new role, Commander Becker will oversee law enforcement operations in an area bounded by I-10 to the south, the city limits to the west, Highway 290 to the north, and Loop 610 to the east. The division also partially overlaps with the Near Northwest Management District.
One of the initiatives Becker highlights is the division’s Differential Response Team (DRT), which addresses quality-of-life issues affecting commercial property owners and residents. “Our DRT is designed and empowered to address chronic problems that typical 911 patrol responses aren’t designed to handle,” Becker explains. “They work not just with law enforcement resources but also connect to other social services, really trying to understand and resolve underlying problems.”
Looking ahead, Becker shared exciting news about potential improvements to the division’s infrastructure. “There are some whispers on the horizon about the city investing in a new patrol station for this division,” he revealed, noting that the mayor has discussed plans to replace the current aging facility with a new station.
Commander Becker expresses enthusiasm about working with Spring Branch’s diverse community. “Spring Branch is known throughout the city as a forward-looking community,” he says. “We have a very diverse, very engaged, and positive community here, and I’m really excited to be part of it.”
The Spring Branch Management District looks forward to working closely with Commander Becker to maintain and enhance the safety and security of our community.
