Dorothy Gale of Kansas, after enduring quite a bit of stress and drama, finally came to a realization at the conclusion of The Wizard of Oz: “If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own backyard.”
The owners of TCP Outdoor Living say Houston area residents don’t need a pair of magical ruby slippers to make their outdoor living dreams come true, either. They just need a good custom builder.
Recently, TCP picked up their offices and dropped them in the Spring Branch District, providing a central location in “The Heart of Houston” from which they can serve their clientele. The Tin Man would be so proud.
Formerly Texas Custom Patios, TCP Outdoor Living moved to 1422 Southwick St. in the District in May. Owners Rob and Katherine Douglass and Steven Schell started their business in Fort Bend County in 2004, eventually expanding to the greater Houston area. Their last office was in the Westchase area.
The Spring Branch District seemed an ideal place to move based on their business, said Katherine Douglass.
“It is a very central location,” she said.
A custom builder for outdoor living structures, including patio covers, pool houses, screened porches, room additions, pergolas, outdoor kitchens and fireplaces, TCP specializes in creating outdoor spaces for homeowners to “live it out,” Douglass said.
“We want to give homeowners a space that extends the walls of their homes in order to find the perfect place to entertain friends and family, to sit and enjoy a glass of wine after a long day at the office, to have some shade while the kids play in the yard, and to watch the big game.”
Over the last 18 years, TCP has completed more than 2,200 projects, Douglass said. The company also opened an office in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and is looking to expand to Austin as well.
Douglass said she and the other owners and designers at TCP pride themselves on creating spaces that look like they were always part of the original plans of the home.
“We don’t build projects that look like an afterthought or a DIY project,” she said. “Each project is carefully designed and built with input from the homeowners to make sure we create a space that will be used and enjoyed.”
Douglass said TCP is happy to be in the Spring Branch District, where they have already completed a number of projects and enjoy patronizing other businesses. There are several nearby places conducive to hosting client meetings or staff lunches near the new office.
And, Douglass said, TCP is excited to serve all of the homeowners of the Spring Branch District area and beyond who are looking to build their dream outdoor spaces.
