In Monterrey, the capital and largest city of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León, La Siberia Original restaurant is known for its famous Tostada La Siberia, great cocktails, and vibrant atmosphere.

In Spring Branch, La Siberia Original may not be the “original original,” but the descendants of the founders of the Monterrey restaurant are using the original recipes.

Add a seven-hour weekday Happy Hour, “deportes” on the numerous televisions, and regular live music, and you’ve got the makings for a popular destination even amongst a sea of Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican restaurants in Houston.

While some people are stopping by to see what the new restaurant at 2030A Bingle Rd. is like, perhaps to see what the new owners did with the interior and give the menu a shot, others are walking in knowing to expect greatness.

“I’m geeked out La Siberia is here,” one reviewer said online. “The La Siberia tostada tastes just like I remember when I was younger — plenty of avocado with plenty of shredded chicken with table cream in between two giant tostadas,” adding: “You forget you’re in Spring Branch once inside.”

Kyle Pierson, former owner of The Branch and a longtime promoter of Spring Branch area small businesses, says the Enchiladas Rojas de Vallarta reminds him of his childhood when he would go over to a friend’s house, and his mom or abuelita would make enchiladas.

These aren’t your typical H-town enchiladas, as they are not “saucy and melty,” Pierson warns.

Enchiladas Rojas de Vallarta uses red tortillas, which are filled with cheese, baked, and topped with queso fresco.

On our visit to La Siberia, we decided to try the famous tostada, which did not disappoint. My dining companion dubbed them the “perfect Houston summer nachos.”

The pork is tender like it’s been simmering all day. The crisp, fresh lettuce counters the tenderness of the pork. The sauce has a hint of adobo and a touch of spice.

The waiter’s expression melted into a blissful familiarity when we asked about the Asado de Puerco. His only response was, “Corn or flour?”

And, to be honest, I don’t remember which we got because all we cannot forget and talk about is the flavorful pork.

If you need another reason to visit La Siberia besides the Asado de Puerco—and we don’t—know that kids eat free Monday through Friday.

And Happy Hour is not relegated to an hour, not by a long shot. Enjoy specials Monday to Friday from noon to 7 p.m., including a $5 margarita that hits the spot because, as the restaurant posted on social media, “it’s always a good time to toast!”
