Get ready to have a “blast” at Spring Branch’s new outdoor entertainment pub, Powder Keg.
In the era of COVID and the accompanying public health measures, Powder Keg proves a safe place for patrons to gather while still social distancing and enjoying time with friends.
Nestled among the familiar warehouses and industry businesses along Brittmore just west of Beltway 8, this outdoor pub-meets-sporting-facility has something for almost everyone. A unique offering of liquors/wines, sand volley ball courts and dog park means you can bring the whole gang.
Director of Hospitality for Powder Keg, Kyle Struble, tells us that the developers felt like there was not really anything like this in the area:: A nice place to come and socialize, play a bit of volleyball, and enjoy a great drink. Working with smaller distilleries and wineries, Powder Keg gives you more “bang” for your buck. “We wanted the drinks to be affordable while offering a unique selection,” added Struble.. Happy hour is from 2-7 p.m. weekdays.
Developers simply gutted an old warehouse and reinvented the space with what Kyle says is a focus of taking something old and giving it new life.
With several outdoor large screen televisions, it is the perfect place to cheer on your favorite sports team. Guests can partake in a friendly game of ping pong or cornhole in the open-area facility complete with plenty of tables and seating.
The outdoor sand volleyball courts are home to a couple of volleyball organizations including the Texas Stars, a youth volleyball organization; a Foot Volleyball team, and Beach Tennis team.. The courts are available by reservation and are great for your next gathering for business or pleasure. The large trees provide the perfect place to enjoy a picnic in the grassy area or on picnic tables on a beautiful day.
Those of us who are more spectators than participants can enjoy delicious food from the various food trucks. From tacos and quesadillas to award winning barbecue from the Boot Shooters Barbecue cookers, the food receives high scores from Powder “Keggers.”
The place is not only pet friendly but takes it to another level with the large dog park on site. So, if your four-legged friends get tired of being on a leash, there is a shaded place for them to run off a little steam.
Why the name “Powder Keg?” Well, the owners are the same developers of The Cannon, a digital innovation hub next door. They believe that this facility would be able to “ignite” interest in the area. Within the next year or so, they already have plans to expand with an indoor events space at Powder Keg.
Did we mention they are open late on weekends? Hours are 4p.m. to midnight Mondays – Thursdays, Fridays 4p.m. – 2 a.m. and Saturdays 11a.m. – 2a.m. Sundays: 11a.m. – 8 p.m.
