No matter what the calendar says, summer-like temperatures have arrived in Houston, and that means families will be looking for swimming holes to beat the heat and keep the kids occupied.

Wolfies Swim School wants to help ensure their experience is as safe as possible.

The owners of the swim school, who have had a location in Bellaire since 2017, are working to open a new location at 9336 Westview in the Spring Branch Management District this summer. The swim school will occupy a space that was a 24 Hour Fitness.

“We felt like we’d be a great fit in this neighborhood,” said owner and founder Cindy Wolf Meador.

Like in Bellaire, Wolfies Spring Branch will offer small group swim classes, private lessons, Baby & Me classes, stroke classes, seasonal day camps, parents nights out and birthday parties.

Cindy and her husband, Richard Meador, started teaching swimming in Meyerland in 2005 in Cindy’s parents’ above-ground pool. They later moved to the West University Recreation Center before ultimately opening the Bellaire location.

“I grew up swimming every day and it quickly became something I loved to do and I couldn’t help but want to share that with anyone I could,” Wolf Meador said. “Swimming is unlike many other sports because it is a lifesaving skill, and Wolfies aims to empower as many swimmers as we can to prevent accidental drownings.”

Wolf Meador said Wolfies specializes in small class sizes — capped at three children per group class, which is generally half of what some other schools offer.

She said she thinks Spring Branch will be a great second location for Wolfies.

“We really enjoy the community vibe we have in Bellaire and were looking to find something similar,” she said. “We know that families in this neighborhood don’t have many options for swimming, and we wanted to offer them our top tier swim lessons and exceptional customer service.”

Wolfies believes in giving back to the community where it’s located. Each month, the school chooses an organization or cause to promote with a fundraiser. This month, they chose Child Advocates.

“We feel that it is important to give back to the community that has given so much to us,” the Wolfies website states.

Wolfies instructors teach all ages and skill levels. Choose between daily and weekly lessons, seasonal swim camps, specialty clinics and at-home lessons.

There will be something to meet every swimmer’s needs at Wolfies Spring Branch, Wolf Meador said.
