Have you heard the saying, “You get what you get and you don’t get upset?”
Dutch Bros hasn’t.
Drive through or walk up to the ordering window at the new Dutch Bros at 7974 Long Point Rd., and you’ll find a menu posted along with a QR Code to an online menu with more options.
Not enough choices? There is the Dutch Bros Secret Menu.
And, if that’s still not special enough, you can add any flavor combo to any type of drink. Just ask “Rowan” who took my order recently at the Spring Branch District shop.
One time, she said, someone drove up with a unique customization for every single drink ordered. They mixed and matched drinks and came up with combinations she never even considered.
No problem, she said. Each and every wish was fulfilled — probably with a huge smile and some fun, upbeat music in the background.
I don’t know anything about the Dutch Bros hiring process but the result is happy, enthusiastic employees who make the whole experience just that —an experience.
After Rowan, we encountered “Natalie,” who said business has been brisk at the Spring Branch drive-thru window but she wouldn’t mind seeing even more new friends stop in and try all the different coffee and drinks options until they settle on their favorites.

Then let your imagination run wild!
As I’m not a sugary drink person, I went for the medium Cold Brew with “light ice,” 2 percent milk and cinnamon “sprinks” on my recent visit to the Spring Branch location. (I may never be able to drink a cold brew without those cinnamon delights now.)
Meanwhile, a friend who doesn’t mind a sweeter drink went for the Dirty White Zombie Chai off the secret menu. Just ask for chai concentrate, your milk of choice, white chocolate sauce and vanilla syrup.
While the drink possibilities are endless, the snack choices are limited to a house-made granola bar and three flavors of muffin tops. Yup, you only get the top but, of course, we all know that’s the best part.
Founded in 1992 by Dane and Travis Boersma, Dutch Bros is headquartered in Grants Pass, Oregon, but — clearly — the word has spread all the way to Houston, where new locations of the drive-thru only shop have been popping up all around town. Dutch Bros has nearly 900 stores across 17 states.
The Boersmas are, as the name suggests, brothers of Dutch descent, who started their business when their family’s third-generation dairy farm was struggling. They started with an espresso cart. Later they added four more carts and, eventually, they opened their drive-thru and also began roasting their own coffee.
We bet the bros never dreamed of some of the combos people are getting these days.
We challenge you to surprise the employees at the Spring Branch District Dutch Bros with your own creative combo.
