In 2023, an estimated 54.2 million people aged 12 and older needed treatment for a substance use disorder. Only 23 percent of those received the treatment they needed.
More than 37 percent of those who didn’t receive treatment said they didn’t know where to go or how to get treatment.
Jibran S. Shamsi, the CEO and President of Texas Clinic Westview, an outpatient addiction treatment center based in the Spring Branch District, said the clinic has served the Spring Branch community for over 40 years.
“Our mission is to provide accessible, affordable, and effective addiction treatment services,” said Shamsi. “We’re committed to supporting our patients’ recovery journeys.”
Texas Clinic Westview provides medication-assisted treatment, an evidenced-based treatment using medications (Methadone, Suboxone, Sublocade, and Vivitrol) in the treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder and Opiate Use Disorder.
The clinic tailors its work to the individual’s needs, helping to sustain recovery and overall wellness. It combines medication-assisted treatment with behavioral and counseling therapies.

Shamsi said Texas Clinic Westview serves more than 100 people each year. While most patients come from Houston, some come from other parts of the country.
“What’s special about this clinic being in Spring Branch is that we are the oldest facility to open our doors in 1984 to help people with their addiction,” Shamsi said. “Whether you’re just beginning your recovery journey or seeking ongoing support, the clinic’s staff are dedicated to being with you every step.”
Accredited by the Joint Commission, Texas Health and Human Services, and the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Texas Clinic Westview accepts Medicare and most major insurance plans and is expanding to include Medicaid and state-funded programs.
Dr. Gloria Maguadog says the clinic is transforming lives.
“It’s so much more than using opiates. It’s having withdrawal; they keep using more and more, they’re stuck,” she said. “We help them with their functioning, help them become the people who they want to be.
An online reviewer agrees: “They truly understand, care, and are there to help anyone in any situation. I would not and will not hesitate to refer anybody seeking help to these wonderful people.”
