Call In or E-mail Your Book Request Today

The shelves at Becker’s Books on Westview Drive lend themselves to hours and hours of perusing. Like sirens, they lure bibliophiles who may come in with particular books in mind and then leave with an armload they didn’t know they even needed but realized they couldn’t live without.

But what happens when there is a pandemic and the bookstore is not open for leisurely browsing?

You let the owners do the book hunting for you.

While Becker’s Books in the Spring Branch District isn’t yet open to the public, the store is “open” and taking requests by email at [email protected]. You can also call in your order to (713) 957-8088.

In 1993, Dan Becker and his wife Ann bought a house in Spring Branch where Dan took his own personal collection of books exploding out of his garage and warehouse and filled the Spring Branch house to the brim.

His hobby turned into a livelihood and, over the years, the Beckers have opened additional warehouses to house their inventory.

There are dozens upon dozens of corridors of books stacked from floor to ceiling at Becker’s Books. Although light on recent publications, Becker’s Books offers a large selection of used and rare books.

And the pandemic hasn’t stopped the Beckers from adding to their collection.

A recent Facebook post proclaimed: “Really awesome new art books. In stock. You can order by phone and we’ll ship them to you. More pictures to follow!”

From $2 paperbacks to $1,000 manuscripts, there is something for everyone at Becker’s Books — from collecting to collectible editions, from self-help books to books on books, from politics to true crime. (Oh wait, is that the same thing?)

A few other subjects: Business and Finance, Cars and Car Repair, Children, Christmas, Cookbooks, Crafts, Drama, Economics, Education, Ephemera, Essays and Letters, Fashion, Fiction, Folklore and Mythology, Foreign Languages, Gardening, Genealogy, Grab Bag, Health, History, Humor, Journalism, Law and Legal Reference, Literary Biography, Literary Criticism, Magazines, Medical, Movies and TV, Music and Dance, Natural History, New Age and Occult, Oil, Philosophy, Poetry, Psychology, Recovery, Reference, Religion and Theology, Science and Technology, Scouting, Sets, Sex, Sociology, Sports and Games, Study Guides, Texana, Textbooks, Transportation, Travel and Adventure, Writing and Language, and Yearbooks.
